In post-World War II Barcelona, young Daniel is taken by his bookseller father to the Cemetery of Forgotten Books, a massive sanctuary where books are guarded from oblivion. Told to choose one book to protect, he selects The Shadow of the Wind, by Julian Carax. He reads it, loves it, and soon learns it is both very valuable and very much in danger because someone is determinedly burning every copy of every book written by the obscure Carax. It’s big, chock-full of unusual characters, and strong in its sense of place. Part detective story, part boy’s adventure, part romance, fantasy, and gothic horror, the intricate plot is urged on by extravagant foreshadowing and nail-nibbling tension.

GWIC Charity Update May

March 11th was the International Day for Respect and Dignity. “We Are All The Same” was the day’s motto and the message is to treat everyone equally with respect and dignity, regardless of their physical, mental or financial status. As last year, GWIC participated showing our solidarity with the cause.

For the NGO “Wise Love” we are donating for their school project in Guangxi that focuses on children and we continuing our support to GETCH, donated for the medical rehabilitation of their students.

For raising money, GWIC charity organized an informal bowling tournament for fun and also this spring we did the charity shoe and bag sale.

Lastly, GWIC encourages ladies who are interested in charity to reach out, help, and even apply for the board position. The AGM is on May 16th where the new board will be decided. Believe me, it is a fun and satisfying experience and a good way to
help society.

Come and join the GWIC Ladies outing to Baiyun Mountain. Baiyun Mountain is one of the most fabulous scenic spots in Guangzhou.

Thursday May 31. at 10 am

We meet at Citic Plaza and go by car to Baiyun Mountain.
Price: 60 RMB covering lunch packed, drink and entrance fee.
We share the cost for going to and from Baiyun.

GWIC charity bowling tournament

Hi ladies. Thank you for supporting us.

The bowling tournament was a big success. 40 ladies participated and it was fun.

We are happy to announce, that we collected a total of RMB 3,000 for charity after costs.

Thank you Rose, Beth, Margaret, Jette, Kathy, Yvonne and lastly Mette, who also took nice pictures.

Welcome to the newly designed GWIC website! All content has remained the same from the original page and still uses a similar format, except we now have an easier to use menu navigation system to help guide you through the site. Also, you can simply use the search function located on the right side of the page to find whatever content you’re looking for. Additionally, the new design features a new and improved calendar system with all upcoming events automatically generated on the right side of the page. Click on the event link for further details, such as location, time, and point of contact. Finally, the biggest change to our website is the addition of our fully interactive message board. On the message board, you can discuss any and all topics related to GWIC, as well as off topic subjects such as discussing the last book you read or recommending a new restaurant.
